Fortunately, <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">physical activity<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #50636d;\">can help us get back on track with healthy lifestyle habits and <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">decrease<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #50636d;\">, or even eliminate, the<\/span> <strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">symptoms<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #50636d;\">of mental health disorders.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #494949;\">The hormonal effects of exercise<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #50636d;\">The common mental disorders are usually caused by a <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">hormonal imbalance<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: black;\">\u2014<\/span><span style=\"color: #50636d;\"> generally the release of cortisol (stress-related) and a deficiency in the neurotransmitters that control feelings of wellbeing (serotonin, noradrenaline, and dopamine).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #50636d;\">Regular <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">physical activity <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #50636d;\">increases the natural secretion of serotonin (the \u201cfeel-good\u201d hormone) and decreases the secretion of cortisol (the stress hormone), which is why exercise <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">acts as an antidepressant<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #50636d;\">. Exercise also decreases cortisol levels, resulting in a <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">tranquilizing effect<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #50636d;\">that calms our mental state. Due to its regulating effect on the hormones and neurotransmitters involved in depression, regular exercise is actually a <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">mood booster<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #50636d;\">that can help people with depression to function better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #50636d;\">Exercise also has <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">long-term<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #50636d;\"> benefits since it <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #00aef3;\">reduces the risk of relapse<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #50636d;\">and the need for outside help. Health professionals agree that exercise is essential for good mental health and balance. Many of the metabolic changes triggered by exercise improve brain function.
